Turi is Deputy Chairman of the Ngaiterangi Runanga and Settlement Trust, and the Māori Relationship Manager for Seeka Industries, and a director on Te Awanui Huka Pak. He is an experienced director, involved across the education, Māori development, and primary sectors.

Turi is a former school principal across all levels, former acting co-chief executive and director of Te Wananga o Aotearoa, and recently retired as executive director Māori at the Open Polytechnic. He was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit for Services to Education in 1998. He is also a director on the Primary Workforce Development Council, Director of the Centre of Vocational Excellence Food and Fibre Sector, and Co-Chair of the Bay of Plenty Skills Leadership Group.
