The rollout of 147 Samsung Multifunction Devices across 47 sites has been completed.

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (TWoA) is New Zealand’s largest user of the YSoft 6 platform the Samsung devices operate on.

It allows Cloud-based administration and local spooling, which negates the requirement for print servers at each site.

The FollowMe Print feature, which allows kaimahi and tauira to release their jobs from any device, is proving very popular.

Statistics for May show how important print, copy and scan to email is to the organisation.

  • Black and White Print- 418,771 pages
  • Colour Print- 351,110 pages
  • Black and White Copy- 187,697 pages
  • Colour Copy- 167,114 pages
  • Scan to Email- 50,026 pages

For support Hangarau has created a portal on Te Kōpua that contains user guides and information to assist https://twoa.sharepoint.com/sites/hangaraupehowto

Along with the new Samsung devices, TWoA has also implemented a new Production Data Centre infrastructure at the Spark premises in Caro Street, Hamilton.

This allows the consumption of network services from an external Private Cloud hosted platform.

The existing Primary Data Centre infrastructure is based at Mangakōtukutuku and will be repurposed as a disaster recovery facility, providing a backup and replication point for restoration of business critical application services.

This solution aligns with the organisation’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan.

Hangarau engineers are currently replicating applications between sites, with production cut over in four weeks and sites fully mirrored by the end of September.

This initiative mitigates potential security risks and downtime caused by third party power or data transmission issues.

Meanwhile, legacy IT hardware from TWoA is being recycled and repurposed for distribution to community groups by asset disposal company Remarkit.

Remarkit also has an online shop that kaimahi (not tauira) can purchase from by registering through http://shop.remarkit.co.nz  with their staff account to receive a 20% discount off the list price.
